Album number five, what do we know?
It’s been quite some time since we saw the band releasing something, with the last release being Je Te Laisserai Des Mots, back in September 2010. As most of you have heard, the band is working hard on their next album.
What and when?
The new album will be the bands fifth. Some people say it’s going to be their fourth, but most of the band members worked on Waterproof9 to so, we consided that to be their first.
The next album will probably be called “Adventures In Your Own Backyard”, according to an interview Patrick did last September. It is set to release in Early 2012, which is where we are right now, so it’s probably not going to be very long until we get a release date!
The style
Where Close To Paradise was a very piano driven album, and Wooden Arms focused on percussion, the fifth album will be more relaxed, according to Patrick:
“I find it a lot more heartfelt than the other records in the sense where there’s less stuff. With the other records, there was a lot of things happening all the time. This one’s a bit more subdued, but still has crazy arrangements. It’s more direct.”
Having heard the new songs that will probably be on the album (more on that below), that’s a statement that one can understand. The new songs sound happier. Where Close To Paradise was equal to fall, Wooden Arms to spring, the next album will probably be like a full blown hot summer day.
The songs
Though it has been a long time since the band released their last album, we’ve had quite some chance to hear what they have been working on. Here are the songs that we think will be on the album:
Most likely:
High possibility
Low possibility
Just click on the links to see more info on the songs and listen to live recordings of them (except for Swimming Pool, Anywhere and Step Out For A While).
Backyard series
As part of the new album, the band are doing some gigs in people backyards and other strange places. They have played in an Amsterdam backyard and alongside a some Quebec train tracks.
“We’re starting to build a web series that is stories in people’s backyards. When we tour we’re going to try to play peoples’ backyards and collect their stories as we go. It’s based on David Lynch’s Interview Project, this web project he did in the States. They find weird characters in small towns and do little documentaries on them”
Live dates
Since the release will be in the coming months, it would be really possible that the band will be playing the big summer festivals in Europe. They will probably start off in Canada by playing a couple of shows there, and then move on to Europe. Of course, this is still speculation too.
Conclusion
There’s a lot to be excited about. We are really looking forward to the new album and tour, it’s gonna be amazing. What do you think about the new songs and what do you expect from the new album? Let us know in the reaction panel, Twitter or Facebook.
